EMF Reader

The EMF Reader or Electro-Magnetic Field reader is one of two basic tools we use. The device detects fluctuations in the electro-magnetic field of an area. The theory behind this instrument is that spirits generate or interfere with the electrical field of an area. A base reading is taken of the surroundings of the place being investigated and theoretically, if an entity crosses in front of an EMF reader, the instrument will spike, due to the interference.
Digital Voice Recorders

The digital voice recorders is the other basic tool we use. It captures Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), which are sounds or voices believed to be from spirits, often inaudible to the human ear at the time of recording. They detect these anomalies by recording ambient noise, which is later analyzed for intelligent, disembodied voices or phrases, often amidst static, or white noise.
REM pod

A REM pod (Radiating Electromagnetism Pods) detect alleged paranormal activity by creating a small, localized electromagnetic field (EMF) around a telescopic antenna. When an object or “energy” disrupts this field, the device alerts users with lights and sound, signaling potential contact from a spirit. These have different variations, and may be contained within a stuffed animal for child spirits, or other various items.
Infrared cameras

Night vision cameras, often used in paranormal investigations, detect “ghosts” primarily by capturing infrared (IR) light, which is invisible to the human eye. These cameras remove the IR filter found in standard cameras to record thermal anomalies, faint light reflections, or energy signatures in total.
Cat Balls

Paranormal investigators use motion-activated cat balls (spheres containing internal tilt-sensors that flash brightly when moved or vibrated) as “trigger objects”. They provide a highly visual, undeniable way for a spirit to interact with the physical environment and signal their presence to the team.

Dousing Rods

Dousing Rods are two metal rods bent at a 90 degree angle with handles that allow the metal rods to be manipulated by paranormal forces. The rods are generally used for yes or no questions. Crossed rods typically mean “yes” while open rods mean “no”., or vice versa.
Spirit box

A spirit box (or ghost box) acts as a specialized radio scanner that rapidly sweeps through AM/FM frequencies, creating white noise and audio fragments. Investigators believe spirits use this energy to modulate radio fragments into coherent words or phrases.
Alice Box or Ovilus

An Ovilus device, and/or Alice Box, detects potential paranormal activity by measuring environmental changes, specifically electromagnetic fields and temperature, and translating these fluctuations into words or sounds from a pre-programmed database. It operates on the theory that spirits can manipulate energy, allowing them to influence these sensors to select specific, relevant words.
Both the spirit box and Alice Box and/or Ovilus, as well as other similar devices, are used to elicit words from potential spirits. If the words follow a conversion as the investigators ask questions, it is accepted that communication has been established with an entity. If the words do not follow a conversation, is can be interpreted as no contact and therefore random words spit out by the devices.
The spirit box can be used in the Estes Method, which entails a person listening to the spirit box through headphones, which drowns out all outside noise and influences. That person is also blindfolded as another investigator asks questions and the blindfolded person speaks out the words from the spirit box as they hear them. Generally contact is considered made when the questions and words line up into a conversation.
